WHO WE ARE
Center for Agrarian Reform and Rural Development

Center for Agrarian Reform and Rural Development (CARRD) is a not for profit organization supporting agrarian reform beneficiary cooperatives in the Philippines’ poorest provinces.

We aim to promote farmers’ access to productive resources and enable them to make informed decisions about their livelihoods in a manner that is environment-friendly, nondiscriminatory and sustainable.

We are funded by local and international donors and institutions that support our advocacy.

We believe in people-centred development and a faith that promotes justice, peace and integrity to all people – regardless of age, gender and disability.

" To nurture our land, we must nurture our people

What does CARRD do?
WE TRAIN farmers to become paralegals so they'd know how to defend themselves when they're oppressed
WE PROMOTE agrarian reform as an issue of priority and lobby for policies protecting the rights of smallholder farmers and their families
WE EDUCATE farmers about the environment and their role in protecting it through sustainable agriculture practices
WE ORGANIZE farmers about the environment and their role in protecting it through sustainable agriculture practices
WE CONNECT farmers to markets through tried and tested business models
WHERE IT ALL BEGAN CARRD started as a working group of professionals providing technical assistance to farmer-groups clamouring for a comprehensive agrarian reform from the then fledgling post-EDSA revolution administration. This momentum was sustained throughout all the changes in the Philippine political landscape. More details here…

“Agrarian reform as a social justice measure is a must if we are to eradicate exploitation, hunger, and poverty in the rural areas. Without agrarian reform genuine development will not take place.”

Ka Oscar Castillo, Former Executive Director, farmer-leader

SUSTAINING LAND REFORM

Over the years, CARRD adopts a development model that features land tenure improvement as a core measure for alleviating rural poverty. With most of the agricultural land in the country having been distributed, CARRD works to empower rural communities by developing their capacities to nurture and protect one of their most significant assets – their land. See how  we do it…
